The War Memorial c1920
This photograph (taken from an original postcard) shows the original junction between Ermine Street (A1198) and Cambridge Road (A603) looking north-east towards Cambridge. A new-looking Wimpole and Arrington War Memorial is on the left and Wimpole Lodge (now 141 Cambridge Road) is on the right. Because of the commemorative wreaths, the month is likely to be November and the year in the early 1920's.
The photographer is believed to be Robert H Clark of Royston.

The War Memorial c1920
The photograph is from an original commemorative postcard sold around the villages in the early 1920's.
The original memorial was a simple granite cross on a plinth. The pavement and retaining wall was added for the monument's rededication service in 1947.
The original image is so clear that the Roll of Honour can be clearly read and the photograph was used as a check against recent cleaning and restoration work.
