Chairman's Winter Address
As Christmas fast approaches, I guess like me you wonder where yet another year has gone. On reflection we’ve continued to build on past achievements –
We have continued to lobby the County Council to reduce the speed limits through the village with some success.  We will start a village consultation process in the New Year for a speed limit reduction to 30 miles an hour.
Part of the pavement in Church Lane has now been resurfaced which was no mean feat given the cutbacks the council are making this year.
The plans for The Village Hall extension are now a reality adding much needed space to the venue.
Work in the Village Garden continued throughout the year with the help and support of regular volunteers who gave up their valuable weekends to weed, plant and prune to keep it looking in tip top condition.
The village party in the Hardwicke Arms car park celebrating the royal wedding was a huge success – it was the best attended village event for a long time.
Our fund raising events continue to be successful with the second Arrington Open Golf Championship held in September raising over £7,000 in aid of the Village Hall and St. Nicholas Church.
As ever, we would like to see more new faces from the village at all fundraising and social events.  Over the next 12 months I believe the villagers will be called upon to support ourselves more than ever before as government funding continues to be cut.  The Village Christmas Party takes place in the Village Hall on Friday 2nd December and I look forward to meeting you all there.
With very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
Derek Footman
Chairman
